ATO with Failed Sensor

Hi, I have a question about Tunze and Apex ATO's that I'm sure someone knows the answer to, I've been searching but can't find anything.

What happens if the main sensor fails and the ATO is turned off via the backup sensor? Will the ATO stay off until it's reset or will it continue to run based off the backup sensor? If so what would protect the backup sensor?

As far as I know, Tunze "backup" float sensor is just a safety sensor. When my main sensor failed, the water level dropped which suggests the backup does not work as a true backup. The good news is that Roger from Tunze charges about $35 to replace that sensor if it fails.

Thanks, I emailed Tunze, he said the backup will take over if sensor fails on but usually it fails in off position so it stops working.
