sea horse tank build questoins
I am wanting to build a seahorse tank. Currently I am looking at a 37gallon tank. It is 30'' long x 12'' wide x 22'' tall. I want to keep either a pair of H.Erectus or H.Kuda. So here are my questions:
1. What is the best/easiest seahorse to keep? 2. What pipefish would be good to keep? 3. As for lighting, what type should I use? 4. Should I use a sump/fuge? 5. How much of a turn over should I have in the tank? |

i would go with erectus they are said to be the hardiest.\
i would stick with just a pr of them for a year to make sure everything is going well before trying to add fish mates .\ as for lighting they don't require a lot so a basic t5 2 strip would be fine. a sump fuge why not good place for pods to breed . get them well stocked before adding the seahorses. all this is just my opinion and others may differ as far as turn over not sure on that. and welcome to the world of seahorses.

1. Adults are pretty much the same. Most will recommend H. erectus as the first species.
2. I generally don't recommend pipes with seahorses. 3. Lighting can be as simple or as complex as you need. T5's are fine. 4. I like both. A sump is really handy and allows you to move all the equipment below and makes the system more flexible and upgradeable. 5. I normally recommend at least 10 turns. Flow does need to be broken up, but higher flow equals a healthier tank. Dan |
