new tank: equipment recomendations?

so i just purchased a 50 gal breeder yesterday i have the stand half built and im very excited to get it up and running. this will be my first decent size reef tank and my mind is boggled by the many different kinds protein skimmers on the market. can anyone recomend a solid skimmer under 125$ or if anyone has built an effective one from scratch. any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

An Aqua C remora skimmer would be nice for that size tank ... the factory used to sell skimmers with minor cosmetic imperfections at a big discount .. worth a phone call.
