This is strange

I have a 120 gallon tank and it has been running for 3 years with not much problems until recently. I have a red algee outbreak in the tank, but it has only broken out in one half of the tank. It started directly in the middle and when all the way to one side and stopped. Now it is turnning green. What could be causing this outbreak of red algee? The lights are Icecaps 660s VHOs and they are under 5 months old.
