I wouldn't use it in a 30 gallon due to the size of the pump, you either get a rio 1400 or a magdrive 3. I recommend the CPR BakPak skimmer. Check out this thread on the Remora skimmer. Nobody was satisfied with it for the price. I have the link in there for the CPR BakPak. You want the one with the additional baffles to cut down the micro bubbles.

I think the std Remora is a much better choice for your size tank. Its not an issue of "overskimming" but just that the Remora Pro is too bulky for that size tank and the Remora will do an excellent job.
