Just got my first coral... now a question

Hey,
The tanks been doing great lately. I had a cyano outbreak a month ago and the tank was lightless for 3 weeks (FOWLR at the time). I ended up picking up a Tek T5 4 bulb fixture and got some diatoms. They have subsided except for some residual areas left. Today I went to pick up some water and decided to get my first frag. I really like Xenia and the wife does as well so I picked up a small frag of that.

They pulled it off the rock and rubberbanded it onto a small rock. It got small immediately as they pulled it off the old rock. It's been in my tank since 6:30 and still is small. It doesn't appear to be melting (never seen it), but it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

How long does it take to open up? It's sitting a little below halfway up the tank in full light and a flow that makes it move around, but not beating it.

It will take a little time for it to look better. It was just fragged. You should see some improvement in the coral when your lights come on tomorrow. Keep the rock away from things you don't want zenia on. You can't kill that stuff.

so I've heard. I really like how it looks and don't mind pulling it out of the tank when it's gone too far. Hopefully I can find an LFS that will allow me to exchange frags for some other things. I can't afford to fill my tank up at $30+ a frag.

thanks, i'm hoping it'll start pulsing like in the store. I know it's hit and miss even if you saw it pulsing before you brought it home. It seem slike it's "half" pulsing right now. Just cringed up and rubbing it's "fingers" together.

thanks for the help. How do I know when it attatches to the new rock? My LFS (which offers good advice fortunately) told me 2-3 days or as long as 2 weeks.

What am I looking for to know it's attatched so I can remove the rubberband.

You can just tell the foot has properly attached after a while. Hard to describe, but it will just look like it's sticking to the rock.
