Restrict a lot of flow, and over time they can get clogged up and stop working. But yes a lot of people use them

I use one. I'm thinking I'll probably put it on a closed loop eventually, though because it does seem to restrict a lot of flow off of my return pump. But I like it.

When they clog you can dip it in hot vinegar water overnight which sometimes works. I had to use a screwdriver last time to start the mechanism in the thing again. I've been through tons of them though just because you can't open the thing up to fix it when it breaks. I like it when it works though.

Of those that have them - do they make noise?

One thing I like about it is that it's not an electric device that adds more heat and requires another outlet, so that's a plus. And though it adds a nice gentle current to the tank, I wouldn't use it for my only source of circulation. It's more of a supplemental thing. But maybe that equals one or two fewer powerheads you have to buy.
I've had no noise from mine whatsoever, and no issues so far. I'm a satisfied customer. |

Hmmm... mine makes some noise. Its not horrible, but its audible.
I may contact them and see what they say. It sounds like the gears grinding just a bit. Brandon
