Tunze 6000 or Koralia 4?
What really makes tunze better than koralia? I am deciding on another koralia 4 or 2 tunze 6000 and multicontroller. What really makes the tunze worth so much money. Not the ''they are proven'' statement, because my current koralia performs well too. Is it just the controller that makes them worth that much money?

They are two totally different means to an end.
The Tunze uses a DC motor, with a set of transformers and drivers to run them on a controller. This controller also provides several differnt options to create random or chaotic flow in your tank. The Koralia uses an AC motor that does not require a transformer or driver to keep it going. You can plug it into a SEIO controller, and this will allow it what would be considerd minor adjustability compared to the Tunze. Are the Tunzes worth the extra cash? It depends. There is nothing on the market right now that is like them. So if you want all the controllability, you have to pay the extra money. I think they are a little more expensive then they should be, but they can charge that amount because no one else has a product like them. So to me, they were worth the cash because I wanted them. I "value" their features and bennefits. If you see no value, then they definetly are not worth it. The Tunzes are silent, reliable and offer superior customer service. But in the end, they just move water. And if you are just looking to move water, the Koralia does just that. HTH Cheers, Jim

imo, if you got the money, buy the best you can afford, but out of all the powerheads that I've used/researched the koralia's are the best bang for the buck.

Koralia 4s are rated at 1200 gph. Tunze 6000s go up to 1850 gph. That's more than 50% more flow, so you can't make a direct comparison.
One 6000 on a single controller provides the majority of the flow in my softies/LPS tank (72x24x18). Last edited by fkshiu; 06/22/2007 at 03:43 PM. |

That's it though, you can load the whole tank up with koralia 4s and have a whole lot more flow than 2 of the tunze. That's why I was asking what made them better.

In this hobby/addiction you get what you pay for. If you purchased the tunze's you would not be disapointed in the performance.

See, that another great thing about the Tunzes. You always just tune them down Also, if you buy the 6000 set, you can upgrade transformers for the difference in price as the 6100 set would cost new. HTH Jim

I have run tunzes, 6 koralia 4's, MJmods, and a vortech on my tank- the tunzes are by far better than all. You can fine tune them to your tank with the controller, they move the water very well, and are nearly silent. If you decide to get the tunzes, definately get the magnet mounts.
Soon, Im not sure exactly when, the 6101's are coming out. They are like a 6000/6100 in one, you can switch between the two different flows.

The 6101's also come with smaller transformers IIRC.....

I don't regret buying 2 Tunze 6000's with 7095 controller. The pumps are very reliable and the controller gives you many options on flow and pump control. Plus the controller comes with a moonlight and light sensor for calm nights were it turns the power down on the pumps.
