need skimmer recommendation/advise
hi everyone,
a friend of mine has a 125G tank with a 30G sump. he's looking into getting a skimmer and would like to know which ones are good. what are some of features he should be looking for, which ones run quiet, etc. thanks in advance for your input. |

he's planning on having a variety of fish and coral, including SPS. probably a few clams as well. he doesn't mind spending the $$ for something that can handle a fully populated 125g tank.
i'm only familiar with nano sized skimmers and couldn't really give solid advise on one for his tank. |

Internal? External? How does he want to feed it? It's all important info
I Like the ATI bubblemaster and the mainstream skimmers. Maybe tunze? Deltec? Octopus? ER?

Depends on your budget. If you want something quiet, low energy consumption, low heat transfer, solid performance, decent pricing, the ATi BM200 $549 would be a good choice.
For high end/high performance needlewheel, H&S A150 $650 and Deltec APF600 $814. Have all the same features as above. |

DAS EX 2 or $439 8.5 inch x 24-28 inch orca skimmer would work, you can get both from protein-skimmer.com (Orca)
A cheaper option would be a mesh-modded octopus nw200, maybe with a genx4100 pump. |

it looks like the DAS-ex3 has the most skimming dollar for dollar. without having to do any modding

the ocotpus meshwheel is a DIY mod, no big deal. the genx4100 you would have to buy and add yourself (in place of the regular pump)
You can get DAS through ORCA (protein-skimmer.com) |
