Mixing saltwater
Is it OK to cover a bucket of saltwater that is mixing (using a powerhead) for a few days? I am wondering if an open top is necessary for gas exchange, or something like that. I'm not worried about evaporation, as I can top that off - just that my powerhead might come detached and create a small fountain!

Its ok to cover it, but its wayyy better to leave it open. If you can't. Then b4 you do a water change, allow the bucket to mix while open for at least 1 hr.

Totally fine. I've been doing this for years.

I drape a towel over my bucket just to keep junk from getting in.
