Flow rate for 1/4 hp custom sealife chiller

The search didn't show any thread for this info. So please suggest the type of pump and the flow rate for this chiller that is running a 55 gal and going to run 125 gal.
I'm using a new maxi jet 1200. Is this too slow ?. My tank is 55 gal now.
Thank you all in advance.

With a 1/4 hp chiller I would think you would want 500gph or so maybe more depending on the size of the tank (less on the 55g, more on the 125g). There should be a manual for the chiller that has a max and min flow rating. Most 1/4 hp chillers are in the 500-800gph range I think.

Thank you Rich
I have neither manual nor PDF file from online 'cause I want to know more about this chiller. I think I should replace the maxijet 1200 which I'm using now with a maxdrive 7.

Either a Mg 7 or 5. I agree with you that the maxijet is not enough to get the most out of the chiller, although with your current tank it is probably not as important. Once you go to the bigger tank you will want the chiller working at max efficiency.

Thanks again Rich
This morning I went shopping around for a pump and still debating between $88 maxdrive and viaqua or genx 2300 which is around $30.
If you have experience about pump, I'll appreciate for your suggestion.

There are basically 2 ways a chiller is designed as far as cooling. Some have cooler coil temperatures and higher flow rates (faster turnover) and others have warmer coil temperatures and slower flow rates (more contact time with the water to help compensate for the not as cool heat exchanger design). Whichever way yours is designed, a Maxi Jet 1200 is not enough flow for a 1/4 hp.

Either way, 500 or 600 gph is probably a safe bet. It would be about 300 - 600 GPH range for the warmer temp. heat exchanger chillers and the 500 - 1000 GPH range for the cooler heat exchangers.
