AquaController Cable

I ordered an AquaController Jr. (w/serial port), and it should be here in a few days. I'd like to make my own serial cable that will also split off the external switch input to a float valve.

From Neptune's website, I see that the AquaController uses an 8-pin miniDIN connector. I haven't been able to find whether the connector on the controller is male or female. Does anyone have one they could look at to let me know what the connector on the controller looks like, so that I can buy the correct connector for the cable? I'd like to have the cable ready to go when the controller arrives.

Thanks.
