Do I need a Fuge?

I am in the process of setting up my 90 rr. I have a 30 gal which I will use as a sump. Do I need a Fuge section? The tank will be FOLR with a ER 135. WHat are the benefits of having one?

I would post pictures, but they are still to large? Could use some help on that also,
thanks
Scot

Do you NEED one? No...will it help? Definitely. It will help take out excess nutrients like nitrates/phosphates, help keep the pH stable, and it will also grow you lots of pods if you set it up right.

I agree with dudeguy. You dont need one but its kinda nice to have one. You wont regret taking the extra steps now before you get your system setup!

The choices are are pretty much endless. You can do what I did and go simple. I just added some LR rubble and a big ball of cheato from the LFS or you can go a little more complex. Like adding a DSB or some miracle mud with some mangroves.
What ever way you decide to go you wont regret it. You said your going ROWLR so you dont really NEED a fuge but if you ever get the itch in the future to go full blown reef you'll be glad you decided to add the refugium.

In the fuge I'd put EcoSystem Miracle Mud; but I am partial to the EcoSystem method and the results in my tank prove it

There are plenty of options for fuge/sump stocking...

As you are a FOWLR, you can do pretty much what ever you want. The main benefit you are going to have is a place for your heater, ATO, and any other equipment you have in the main tank. You could literally get by with nothing but water.

I would not waste the money on M.Mud (looks like dirt to me and made no real difference in my tank we tried it on). I would put the money towards a skimmer.

Do you plan on going reef down the road? This will make some big differences on how you set this up initially

I may do i reef up to soft corals. I was think of having a return in the middle of my sump. Right would be the Intake with ER 135. Left would be the Fuge. I was goin to put a T off my return in the fuge. How much water from the fuge should go back in system?

Does anyone know a link for this topic. I am interested in what to put. What are the benefits and how much flow it requires.
