I think I have read your sump should be about 10X main tank and Recirculating Skimmer Calculation - Total Water Volume x 1.5 Multiplier and Non-Recirculating Skimmer Calculation - Total Water Volume x 2 Multiplier.

Yikes, my new display is 1800L with a 3 foot wide weir. 18,000L/hr over the 3' wide weir is horrendous, I tried it running my CL from the weir ... have to change it!

Someone just said in a neighbouring thread that 3-5x sump turnover is ideal. What are the advantages of having 10x turnover? A possible disadvantage is more noise in the plumbing, the need to buy a bigger pump, and increased turbulence in the sump (if you also use it as a refugium). Does the 3-5x number sound right to most people?

3-5 is the recommended range. Most overflows can't handle anything greater than 6-7x anyway.
