hanging hood hight?

i just finshed my new hood and was wondering how high to hang it over my 180 reef?

hood specs. 4 metal halide 250watt xm bulbs & 4 160watt vho actinic bulbs , hood has protective acrylic on bottom and two fans blowing through thewall venting outside,yes i have a chiller.

I read some were as 8 to 12 inches.
I have my lighting set at 8 inches above water.
