Kalk Stirrer Question

I've got a Aqua Medic 1000 kalk stirrer. IN the instructions it says to stir occasionally. My question is to those w/ kalk stirrers. How often do you stir your kalk & for how long? Right now I've got it set to stir every 3 hours for 30 minutes. Is this fine?

TIA,

Steve

Ought to be fine. Mine just runs 24/7: it's a Hanna. What you don't want to happen is to have too much kalk in and have it get soupy, which will stop the little stirrer-thingee, in which case you have to take it all out and hose it down and get it all clean again.

the AM says not to stir 24/7 because the motor will wear out. it doesn't use as good a motor as the deltec does, which is recommended to run 24/7.

I run my kalk reactor 4 times a day for about 2 minutes at a time (I have a pump though, so it is a little different.) It seems to me that a couple of minutes of agitation is sufficient to keep the top-off water super-saturated. Of course, if you are dosing more than 4 x the reactor volume a day in top-off water you will need to run it more frequently.

Just got off the phone with Bob from AM. He states "Run the kalk stirrer 24/7. By not running it 24/7, you not only create a thick slurry at the bottom of the reactor, you also aren't keeping the kalk in "suspension". He also recommends that you take the unit off line, clean it & refill with a fresh kalk solution every 2 weeks, as opposed to just toping the unit off w/ new kalk powder."

Their motor has a limited life, and by running it 24/7, it will reach it's theoretical end after a year. I dont think its necessary to stir 24/7, and have not done so on my 1000. I think I have mine stir every couple hours for 30 minutes.

Great little unit!

I'm with Bob, I've been running mine 24/7 since I got it.

I can replace the little motor once per year or so if necessary.

Yup, it's a very nice piece of equipment
