Unhappy Sad Day...My Very First Fish Died

I'm in a little bit of shock right now. My very first fish died today. She jumped last night. The bizarre thing is that she had to jump over a powerhead to 5" uncovered section on the back corner of the tank. And the only reason that that part of the tank was uncovered was because I was working on a bracket for my stupid WavySea (another story).

She was a 4 1/2 yo Clarkii that I purchased to cycle my very first SW tank (on recommendation of my LFS). She had lived through all of my learning mistakes (and I've had some big ones). She had also been paired for almost 3 years (the poor male looks lost this morning and is following my Foxface around ).

Her name was "The Queen" and she will be missed.

That sucks. I found one of my favorite mbuna cichlids crushed under a rock the other day so I know how you feel.

Bummer.

I still have my first fish of over 3 years, an ocellaris clown. It's been through three moves and a temperature spike. Bullet proof little guy. I'll be sad when his day comes.

Aww, that's rotten. We just lost our first firefish the same way: had him 2 years, he was with us through the move, and somehow, some way, past all our barriers and precautions, he must've jumped, though we can't find him anywhere. If he somehow got through two layers of mesh to the sump, we can't find him. Not on the floor. Full sympathies, here. The clarkii's get you attached, very quickly.

My female clarkii did the same thing, but I had only had her 6 months.

I lost a Percula Clown I had for 18 years... It is a real bummer.. I immediately replace him with a new male and they paired up immediatley with my 18 year old femalea nd never skipped a beat laying eggs...

Sorry to read about your loss..

Wow! 18 years?? I had no idea that they could live that long. I am also thinking that I if I am going to add another juvenile to pair (with the 3 yo male that I am guessing will become female), that it would be a smoother transition to do it sooner than later. I'm off to check the Clownfish forum...

You do get attached to them quickly, don't you? I had a scare this morning because I didn't see my Potters Angel for a while after the lights came on - he's usually right there at any movement in front of the tank. He's my first fish, and was a gift on top of that, so he does have a special place. He's turned out to have a real personality, too.

I'm so sorry about your Clarkii.
