Reef conventions are too far...

Reef conventions are too far... I have seen a lot of events advertise about reef gathering and conventions, but none of them are close to my area. I live in northern California, San Francisco. Sure up hear might not be much interest in this hobby, but there are people, like me, are very hook to this hobby, like a fish get caught on a line.

Over the past two years, I have heard in near Ontario County of California hosted two events, what about up here? Nothing wrong down south, but what about the north? I'm guessing right here, maybe not enough room to host the event, too expensive, and mainly not enough demand on reef I guess.

I think my best bet of going to one is to fly out, and see one. One thing is that I can't trade corals because I'm flying... DARN. hehe

I'm in the Yay too. Do you know about Bay Area Reefers? I think their website is bareefers.org. I've never been to them, but they organize frag swaps and stuff.

Polwick Thanks for the for the information about BAR. Are you in the bay area?

dkreef, I heard the OC one is popping. It's one of the biggest event in reef.

We have the BA-CFM happenning every year which is a sister event of one of the Ontario ones you speak of. BAR has 300+ people fragswaps yearly and bi-monthly meetings. SeaBay has monthly meetings and typically a fragswap as well.

Last year MARS hosted WMC in Sac. Before that, SeaBay hosted it in Monterey and prior to that MARS held it in Sac

Conventions take a lot of time, energy and most importantly, money upfront. It's not small feat to put on even a small event. Trust me, I've been there and done that

With over 80 stores in less then a 100 square mile radious what makes you think there isn't interest up here We have the 4-5th largest market in the US for MO.

Almost every US reef club has a forum here on RC. On that listing most clubs have their webpage listed as well. That being said:

MARS

Seabay

well, for me a trip to the local fish store is an hour drive (not including possible traffic)... that is a "day" in and of itself (trip to the city)... as for conventions, I am on the east coast in rural south carolina... the bay area is a giant market compared to myself. Some shipping companies can't find m address. I am just waiting for something in Charlotte or Atlanta that I can drive too, but hey, things are always based on perception, I am sure that someone in the Montana is wishing for a convention too!
