New Tank Set Up

im going to be setting up another 90gal reef tank in my computer room..
i want to do some things differently than i did on the first one, as with filtration and such..

im thinking of keeping softies and clams and maybe some sps, so im thinking of goin with some T5 lighting maybr retro fit kits and get about 6 bulbs or maybe a Tek lighting 6 bulb hangover tank set up.

for the sump i wanted to go with sump ive seen in some pictures, im trying to find a picture to show, but from what ive read it was belgium set up with kind of a cloth baggie right under the area where the water from the tank flows in instead of using bio balls.

my question would be what would be some good things to get while the tank is in its early stages, i was thinking of doing LR only untill i get the lr set up completely, like doing of bit draining and setting the rocks together untill its all done and then adding fishes. so right now in its early stages i wont be using any lighting and savign up for me to get the right lighting for it.

what do you guys think?

I'm not quite sure what it is you're asking, but I'll take a crack at an answer and you can tell me if I misunderstood.

You're just going to buy your rock and let it cycle in the tank until the time comes that you can afford the lighting you want, and you want to know what you can do while you're waiting. Is that right?

If that's the case then make sure you have the test kits to monitor your ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels. Are you planning to have a skimmer, or are you going without? If so, start shopping around for one of those, because that'll set you back a few bucks as well.

I think you're thinking of a "berlin" style sump with the sock filter. I don't know of a lot of people who are big fans of bio balls (just going by what I've read here, I've never used them), so the sock sounds like the way to go.
