How much live rock do I need for my 40g breeder??
I am fairly new to purchasing live rock online. In the past, I have purchased entire systems from people and got the live rock that came with it. But purchasing an amount is new to me. How much rock for the 40g show tank and 30g sump??

It depends on the density of the rock, but it is generally reccomended at about 1 to 1.5 lb/gal. I have found that you dont always need this. I like having more of an open look, and you have to leave room for the corals to grow in. Personally I probably would not go over 40 lbs. It also depends on the pieces you get. I like hand picking my rock for good shapes and sizes. If you get a ton of baseball size pieces, you dont have many options. In my 90 I only have 7 rocks, and then the coral on top of that.
