Are these polyps dead ?
I bought some polyps attached to live rock yesterday. They were about
3 inches tall and swaying back and forth in the tank at the store. I had a 4 hour ride home. When I took the rock out of the bag water, the polyps looked gray, and had shrunk down to about 1/2 of an inch. Are they dead, or just in shock from the long ride? Any suggestions on how I might make the acclimation easier for them if they are still alive? Thanks for any suggestions! Eric |

They aren't dead. They may well be a bit stressed but they aren't gone so don't give up on them.
It's a little difficult to say whether they are Anthelia or Clavularia (my guess is Anthelia) but in either event you should be able to bring them back to good health. Assuming your water quality is good...and that's the first thing to pay attention to now, what I would do is make sure that there is a good amount of water flow over them. What's the water movement in your tank?

look like anthelia from the top to me too, but the mat does not look like the way I normally see it. If they were dead the "meat" of the coral would be disentigrating and would probably have some sort of "goo" coming off them. Give them some time to recover from the move.

My guess would have been xenia but I too say they are not dead. Just give them some time. Sometimes corals take a few days even to perk up.

Xenia is a good coral for deflating itself and just taking a break. It will perk up in a day or so.
