Green Ricordia Mushroom Polyp
Should I buy some of these or not? I don't know anything about them except they are pretty and my LFS is trying to sell me some cheap ($7 per polyp).

there are many kind of ricordias, for that price I would say they're yuma ricordia.
In my opinion green ricordia florida are the best, but I heard they're in extintion, that's why they don't sell them in mexico ![]()

plancton, i have no idea where you got that kind of info from.
Sara, if you think they're pretty then go for it. rics are generally very hardy and adaptable to most lighting set ups. if your lighting is significantly more intense, then acclimate to the light properly. incidentally, yes that is a VERY good price for rics. rics come in two varieties. ricorddea florida is more common and goes for about 20$. they have smooth mouths. ricordea yuma are less common, hail from indonesia, are somewhat more picky about conditions than florida and go for about 70$. these have mouths that have small bumps on them. every couple of days or so, i like to feed my rics a mysid. |

Most likely if they are called "Ricordia" then they are Ricordea florida and if they are called Yumas then they are Ricordea yuma. In short, buy what you think is pretty. $7 per polyp, even if they are green, really isn't that bad. I've seen them as low as $5 per polyp, and I've seen many more at well over $100 per polyp depending on the color variation. As long as the Ricordea that you are purchasing are healthy, in good condition (IE not bleached and/or recovering), and you have a fairly stable tank, they will do just fine.
