Sponge or Fungus?

I have had a slimy white growth on one piece of live rock ever since I got it. It has neither grown, nor has it moved. It looks almost fuzzy, but at the same time like a whitish translucent gelatin growing over the rock. What is it? Is it bad? Here are some pretty useless pictures I snapped.

sponge, have the same stuff, they come in other colors to black yellow white, and cream, probably others
