overflow chamber?
What is the purpose of an acrylic overflow chamber? The reason I ask is I have a variety of clown fish and a huma huma trigger that love to hide in the overflow. This is a 110 with 140lbs. of LR, plenty of hiding spaces. I am considering cutting the acrylic walls down, and adding more live rock. The only reason I see for the walls is "if" the bulkhead fittings leak, easier repair. Forgot to mention the overlow houses a Stockman overflow, which should regulate the water level.
Thanks Ed |

If I'm wrong... it won't be the 1st time. If your return pump quits... won't your sump flood if there's no overflow to stop the water once the level drops an inch?

Also, the overflow draws water from the top of the tank. If you don't suck up the water from the top, you will get a nice layer of crap on the top of your water as many impurities, dust, and crap floats.

Kannin,
In most systems that would be true, but with the stockman stand pipe it controls the volume of water going down. victor_c3, I have enough surface agitation and plenty of "flow" to take care of any crud build up on the surface. Plus the stockman draws from near the surface. Appreciate your responses! Thanks We're all in this together Ed |
