Octopus NW-150 Recirc Mod?
Has anyone done this? The skimmer has big chamber so it should be okay... unless you think otherwise. Please share with your findings and suggestions. I am getting another pump this week and will attempt modding this skimmer...
Thanks,

nope, but one guy did and cracked his case. I have a recirc nw-200 and I dont think recirc does anything better than a standard would.

Recircing the skimmer will make it much more affective imo. I've done the mods to skimmers before and currently use a recirc. It creates more dwell time and you can feed your skimmer at a much slower pace. It also makes your skimmer less finicky. When running venturi an NW skimmers they would always be finicky because of water level and what not. Now i don't ever mess with it and i get a dark black skimmate that smells like sewage. I never use to get that kind of skimmate until i changed it up. And i still get the one and a half to 2 cups a day. The only prob with doing it to a NW 150 is you pry can't fit your hand down there to get it right. I have only done the ricirc mods to skimmers large enough to get my hand in the body.

Before Recirc....dark green to sometimes brown not to bad a smell.
After recirc, black and sick, lots of foam and sewage sickening smell. |

Not at all, the body is big enough. 3 uniseal's and some pvc adn a hole saw is all you need. Its a very simple mod to do imo, you just have to make sure you don't slow down in the end or the acrylic may melt to your saw and then harden to your saw and then your in for some fun. So if you do it, go all the way through and not to slow.

A dremel is fine with a hole saw piece on it. I'd start slow on it and once your in start going faster til its through.
Here's the piece i'm talking about. Not an actual hole saw, but the piece. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...72A&lpage=none |

Its a 6" bodied skimmer. Plenty of people are recircing MUCH smaller skimmers (ER RS80s, etc)
