Red Starfish turning white

My cousin recently purchased a starfish. He didn't even know what kind it was, but I think it is a Red Starfish after researching online. He took this picture earlier:

He said the tips are turning white, as shown in the picture.

Any ideas?

Echinoderms are EXTREMELY sensitive to changes in water chemistry and also elevated temps. They can easily develop necrotic diseases like this which are more often than not, Vibrio. Treatment with tetracycline or streptomycin in a quarantine tank can sometimes be effective, but it as to be begun soon, as this is often rapidly fatal.

It is a Fromia species of starfish. Not the easies to raise. Usually lives about 4 to 6+ months before it starves to death. That one is too late--It is dying.
