PE Mysis Tips?

Any tips out there regarding PE Mysis Shrimp? Any good ideas on how to thaw and clean it? It's very messy!

It's very oily. I'd like to see if anyone has any tips on getting some of that oil off of them.

I tried it and had to stop PE has what 70% protein? I wish I could. my skimmer shut down for 6 hrs after even when I washed them before serving. I switched to hikari ocean plankton which has like 20% at least better then regular mysis but def not PE

I do a few things. Thaw in water. Pour off water. Add more water, pour off. I repeat this about 4 or 5 times, and then still only feed using airline tubing like a straw, so leaving most of the water behind. I also try to feed in small doses. But yeah, my skimmer gets killed for a few hours. I don't rinse in a net because I like that I pour off small particulates that my fish probably wouldn't eat anyway, and that might not go through a net rinse.

Lately I've been mincing the mysis for some new anthias that won't eat the large whole shrimp. After mincing, I do the above process to rinse. It seems the center pink part of the shrimp (organs? GI tract?) ends up getting poured off with the rinses, and it seems to contain the "fatiness" so my skimmer doesn't die for as long.

hth

PS - I couldn't possibly stop feeding it. My anthias would probably kill me in my sleep

i thaw in a bit of tank water. after that i pour the stuff into a fine mesh net and rinse well with tap water. i find it very effective.

edit: i also only feed a little bit at a time so the fish have time to eat as much of the food as quickly as possible instead of letting the food sit in the water column until the fish get to it.

Does anyone else find that there is a great deal of inconsistency in how "clean" the shrimp is from time to time?
