can clams be kept on 175w metal halides in 22 inche deep tank?

have a 60 gallon and I am torn between putting in 2*175w MH or 2*250w MH. I want to keep clams but I still feel the 250w is overkill. The tank is 21 inches deep to the sand bed.
What you think can I keep clams on 175W MH

I have several clams in a 120 tank with 175w MH lights (two of them) and they are doing great. The 120 is 24" tall so I don't see why it wouldn't work for your tank. I will say that I want to upgrade to 250s for better coral growth but thats not what we're talking about .

You should have no problem, especially if you are going to use a top notch refelector like lumenarc.

yep and the more clear the water is kept the better light penetration you will have.

Easily, especially if you use the Iwasaki 15k 175w bulbs.

I keep purple acros on the bottom of my bare bottom 120.

Should be no problem in that depth. I know people that have them thriving under PC's.
