Majano
Ok, majanos have finally tken over my 180 mixed reef tank. have taken rocks and covered them and hoped they would climb on the rock so that I could take out the rock pull them off. I have pasted them with kalk but they are coming back stronger. s there any kind of nudi that will eat them, or anything that is reef safe that will rid them. I have way too muck stuff in the tank to take it down 400-500lbs rock. How much damage will a raccoon butterfly do on corals? will they eat the majanos first then go to the corals becuse thatwas goingto be the next step before a total break down.
Any help or sugestions would be considered. Ade

i had over 400 lbs of rock in my 180 and it became infested with the little #$^&*@'s and i tried everything, the ONLY thing that worked was taking the tank down and cooking the rock for an overly extended period of time it wasn't fun but it worked and in the end it took less time then all the kalking/stabbing/plucking/etc...... that I'd tried before to rid the system of them.

Also Peppermint Shrimp,I would not trust the Butterfly around corals, but have seen Copperbands eat Aips and Majonos.I would think the Racoon would too.

the Nuid's will eat Aiptasia ONLY not Majano or anything else and Peppermint shrimp are hit and miss and then only if they are pretty much starved will they eat the Aiptasia.

Elimi-Aiptas worked for me, but I only had a few and they were small (1/2" across)

Done Joes juice, Copper band does not get on with tank mates, nudis can nor handle the flow. I have peppermint shrimp. I have not tried Elimi-Aiptas were does one buy it?

I can tell you nudis, peppermints and a fox face rabbit don't touch them. I am being overrun too and have not found anything yet that works.

I had a problem in my 350 gal. reef, added a copperband . two weeks later, he has about cleaned majanos out. every day there are less and less. had a few rocks completly covered. It is alot better than tearing tank down .

What about injecting them with sulphuric acid? My LFS just sold me a bottle and I thought, what the heck it's only $5. I haven't used it yet...thought I would do some research.

two words: stainless steel wire brush. Works well for getting anything unwanted off the rocks: hair algae, valonia, aptasia, mojano. since it's stainless, it can safely be used in the tank (IME) or you can pull the rock out and do it then. Of course, you will inevitably miss some, but those that do come back can be hit with a few rounds of joe's juice or CaOH solution. I had a pretty bad infestation and this regimen worked for me. I now have just the occasional anemone that pops up, and is easily managable with joes juice.

That sound like a good idea if you have a small sytem and yes I have placed small rocks on top off them and they climb on that rock hit or miss. Then that rock can be taken out, the rocks I have a problem with are the rock with 20" multi plating caps and 12-20" monti's growing that are growing on multipal rocks which have taken a long time to grow.

At least Majono don't multiply as fast as aptasia and are easier to pull it off the rocks. I manually remove most of them.
