Unhappy Fan fell in Sump!!

When I got home from work I realized that my closed loop wasn't on! All of my corals were closed up so I looked at the sump. My fan (which was still plugged in) was sitting in my sump. The surge protector did its job by turning off when it fell in. The problem is that the corals never opened up last night. They all looked like they were about dead. Do you think they will over come it? (sps and lps) I am going to check my parameters when I get home at lunch. how much damage will electricity do to corals? My fish looked fine!?

How long was everything turned off? I would expect the corals to take at least a day to recover.. give them time but keep an eye on them.

If your fish are ok. The likelyhood of your corals being effected by the electricity is minimal. I would think that they are just shocked from lack of motion, temp flux and lack of its normal light cycle. I would hope everything turns around. I wish you the best of luck.

Good thing you had the protector on there. They should be ok,the only thing is I wonder if anything that was on or inside the fan got into your water column, like copper, ect from the motor, lubricants, and no telling what else, not trying to scare you, just want you to look at all aspects.
Hope everything is ok,I've had stuff like that happen before, been lucky so far.Knock on wood!!!

Guess next time bolting the fan down would be a good option. Hopefully things come out okay though.

well I have lost all three of my monti caps! and two frog spawn. Everything else seems to be coming around. I did a large water change 15 gal, running carbon, and skimming wet. I hope this will keep all the rest of my corals alive. The orange and green monti's were my favorite!!

Darkcirca: I found out my wife put our dog in the aquarium rum and I had left the cabinet door to help out with heat.

Is there anything else you would do? I did detect some nitrates when I tested my water at lunch.
