Great Post!
-Hand towels all the same color so I don't use them for cleaning the house.
-Small rubbermaid bin for test kits
-Plumbers putty for my make-shift over flow on my skimmer cup

Should I admit to having made both overflows and skimmers out of Coke bottles?
Probably not.

1) A piece of PVC with a saw kerf in the end that holds a razor blade.
2) I keep my Roughneck garbage cans on furniture dollies so I can roll them around.
3) 40 qt. garbage can to hold my topoff water.
4) Stepladder (My stand is 40" high).

Great ideas all.
I like: #1 small turkey baster for feeding and blow off functions. I also like to blow water at my tomato clown when she attacks.Larger baster is a good spot siphon.#2Toothbrush for cleaning algae and tightspots on the glass-flip it over and you can scrape coraline.#3 Folgers palstic coffe cans for dip containers, mixing conmtainers, food containers, and coral transporters. They also work well in drip acclimation(slide the bag into a large or small container and place it in a buckett. When the water overflows the container it overflows into the buckett. #4 pvc for coral holders, rock supports etc.
I read a number of folks are using various plastic scrapers. Carefull, some of these things contain embedded metal. I used a plastic drywall speader and scratched a tank pretty badly before I knew it was happening.

tooth picks and rubberbands for fragging

detachable showerhead with adjustable speeds for cleaning protein skimmer collection cups and light covers......just put it on the machine gun setting and you don't have to scrub it at all

Two turkey basters. When the bulb wears out on the first, glue the first to the end of a new one and you can target feed, reach deeper...

Clamps!

I use these to hold wires, hold airline tubing when doing water changes, hold nori when feeding tangs, hold the plastic bag when acclimating, hold airline tube when drip acclimating, hold acrylic sheets when fabricating, hold fish trap, many many more!!!

When I got my tank from friends, the set up included forcepts from the doctor of that family. I know it's not a household tool, but it's an unusual handy tool for picking things up, moving things, etc.

Hand squeegy with sponge on flip side to clean and squeegy the outside glass and a toe nail brush from my wife's beauty supply for less than a buck. square brush with bristles like a toothbrush with an area of 2x3 on a plastic handle. great for cleaning algae off rocks and in corners of glass power heads etc.

Its been a few years since I posted this ~ these tools I made come in pretty handy:

1) Siphon-scraper. Made with a boombox antennae, fishing line, airline tubing and superglue. One end of the antennae was crimped and shaped to make a fine edge. It can be a very useful tool at removing pest algae from LR. Syphon flow can be controlled by squeezing the tube against the metal rod. This tool can also be used to target feed hard to reach spots by simply attaching a medicine doser or turkey baster to the other end.

2) Boombox antennae with a toothbrush attached by zip-ties for cleaning LR etc. The other end is used to gently stir and comb the substrate on a regular basis. This tool also comes in handy for knocking hermits off of corals, etc....

3) Medicine doser with airline tubing attached, it is used to baste LR and corals, draw water for testing, and target feed fish/corals. A turkey baster can also be used in place of the medicine doser.

4) Topoff, waterchange, and acclimator doser. Regular airline tubing is used along with a valve to control flow or drip rates.
