Transporting Live Rock

I am getting some additional live rock from a fellow reefer who is tearing down his tank. What is the best way to transport it from his tank to mine? Can I just take it out of his tank, put it in some buckets, drive home (about 1/2 hour), and place it directly into my tank? Should I bring some of my tank water and keep the rocks submerged during transport? Or will just a wet towel do?

Thanks

I would transport it in water. You should have little or no die off if you do.

When transporting the rock it is assumed that your goal is to prevent "die off" on the rock. The amount of this is controlled by the conditions in which you transport it. Transporting it in his water (in rubbermaid tubs) would be a good way to attempt to keep its conditions the same as they were in his tank. Wet towels will probably work but they aren't the same.

I have moved liverock in water filled bags, rubbermaid tubs, simply placed in a foam lined cardboard box. In every case, I have had to deal with an adjustment period after adding the rock to a tank, be it a brand new setup or an already established tank. It is almost certain that your tank and his will be different (biologically - chemically) so expect some die off.

yes as mentioned your best bet is to keep it submerged the whole time.
