Freshwater Dip, How To?

I'm getting closer to setting up my tank and about to order my live rock and later my live stock. However, one of the things I keep hearing is a freshwater dip. I think I under the theory, but I'm not sure about the actual steps involved. This is what I think:

For a freshwater dip you would use whatever water you are using in your system, either fresh dechlorinated tap, or RO/DI water, I'll be using RO/DI water. Make sure the water has the same temp and ph lever.

This is where I'm confused. How do I match the PH? Will the PH in my tank be different since it is already mixed? (I'll be using Reef Crystals) The freshwater I'm using will not be mixed with salt so the PH will be whatever it is coming out of my RO/DI unit.

After the temp and PH are matched, place the fish/invert/coral in the the freshwater. (Not sure about coral, I've heard different opinions on that) Pay careful attention to the animal as if is shows signs of trouble, remove it. The freshwater dip should last 5-15 minutes.

Does that sound about right. Please correct my procedures if they are lacking or incorrect. I plan on doing a FW dip after the acclimation process once I begin to stock my tank.
