Question Protein Skimmer and Sump design help...

Hi,

Im getting a new protein skimmer replacing my cheapskate china skimmer for my 150g newly cycle tank. Getting a re-circulating skimmer from Dymax RS60. Anyone used them before? Anyway it looks exactly like the Fission Recirculating Skimmer .

At the same time im making a new sump design, which is going to be something like this, the dimension not going to be the same...

Question, is it possible for the skimmer to be out of the sump? since i can feed the water into the skimmer using a powerhead? And for the overflow i can use a tube back into the sump?

Please help....

Yes, your skimmer can be run outside of your sump, but you may want to place it in the intake end of the sump for a gravity intake from your returns.

i was thinking of feeding the skimmer from the overflow, what is the benefit of using the intake from returns? And if that was to be used i think its better to be something like

overflow-->return<--refugium kind of sump.

my idea is to be

overflow-->refugium-->return

does that make sense?

Yes, you are correct. I would place the skimmer in the end of the sump with the overflow from the main tank and gravity feed the skimmer.
