Water Depth for Octopus Skimmer?

Well i just ordered a Octopus NW200 skimmer for my new tank. I am trying to get my new sump built, but need some info. For anyone that has one of these, how deep dpoe the water depth need to be for the skimmer to work properly in?

ive read and been told (for my nw150 at least) that 8 to 14 inches of depth is their optimal operating depth.

I run mine at about 10-11 inches and have to clean the cup every 3-4 days of dark green, stinky crud!!
