Tips for my corals?
Hi guys, i JUST got into corals and am already obsessed... ive had a thriving fish/LR only tank for a year now with no problem so i made a 70 gal reef and i have a few corals in there now and i was wondering if i had to do anythign special with them...
I have: yellow deep Water Gorgonian Devils Hand Xenia Green Star polyps. I got kent micro vert to feed teh gorgonian every other day or so. and my lighting is a 65 watt pc a 96 watt pc and two 40 watt t8's I hope this is enough light for my corals and do i have to feed them anythign else? any special addatives i should be adding? Thanks alot guys! Any suggestions are appreciated Oh and i have a few small mushrooms running around too. |

MY biggest suggestion is that you research things before you buy them. Non photosynthetic gorgonians are very difficult to keep. Depending on what your devil hand is you may have an issue there as well, if it's just the leather coral it's hardy and should be fine though.

its a leather, it was a spur of the moment thing with the leather when i was buying the xenia and gsp. he said both of those were very hardy and i knew the xenia was. and threw in the leather, all of them seem rather happy. just want to see if there is anything special i can do to make them happier.
The gorgonian is going to be difficult, but he seems to be doin great... polyps out all the time. no tips for helping me with the gorgonian? As a side note, i throughly research before i buy usually... i just have no idea about corals. so i dont know whats good and not. Fish and inverts im pretty stringent on.

It is very good that you research your fish... make sure you do the same for your corals... check out Wet Web Media for some info and look into a good book on corals like Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History
Here's a short article by Rob Toonen on Gorgonians Oft times spur of the moment purchases turn out very badly indeed... and remember, some fish eat some types of coral, so you need to make sure all your fish are as reef safe as possible... Good luck on your newest part of the obsession... uh, hobby ![]() Hope that helps some anyway... mikey
