and then wire the two greens together right?

the green on the mogel has a screw port attached to it, should I just snip that off and twist it up with the ballast green?

the green is case ground, it connects between the ballast case and the socket/reflector. can you take a pic of your ballast and wires and post it?

I used "Beanies" on the spilces and then wrapped them in tape.

Maybe one of the beanies unspliced the wires some how.

Unless there is something else I'm missing.

This is a new mogel and ballast.

should I remove the beanies and strip the wire more and add nuts on?

There isn't anything on the ballast I need to "engage" in order for it to activate first time is there?

I've worked 18 yrs as a lead aircraft avionics tech and i haven't a clue what a 'beanies' is

wire nut the leads together, yes green to green, white to red, and black to red, bulb should fire if the bulb is good and the proper wattage. there is no engagement of the ballast, just plug it in.

heh I worked in low voltage for a little while, and thats what those guys were calling them.

Aircraft huh? Thats awesome! what kind? I recently just got into fighter jets like hard core.

I don't know if re-wiring had anything to do with it, I honestly don't think I gave it enough time the first round, but it's working now!

Looks awesome too! hamilton 14k!

I thought the single ends give you kind of a flicker and then warm up from there.

They were totally off and then popped on like 2 minutes later.

thats normal right?

i started off on commercial jets, DC9's super 80s and all the Boeing line up to the 767, then i went to a civilian contractor on the F18s doing mods, was lead Avionics, Armament, Electronics & Instruments tech on the AH-64 Apache and Longbow helicopters and retired installing the DIRCM mod on C-130s. now i fly Radio Controlled turbine jets, with JetCat turbines none the less

most bulbs will soft start, come on dim and as heat builds up so does their intensity, the delayed start is usually from an interruption in the power.

Oh on the low voltage splices, were they Telco Splices??

if so you can't use those in aviation , they aren't mil spec or FAA approved

Man, so you've seen just about every cool air machine up close and personal huh?

Does that field pay good? How long is the schooling for something like that?

no what I used are different than that. I put regular wire nuts on now though.

Thanks for all your help by the way!

I've always had a fascination with jets and when i was a kid i told people I'd do two things in life, fly a fighter jet and goto California. well i got the opportunity to get stick time (that'd be me flying it) on an F-18 when i was working at NAS LeMoore in sunny California

aircraft avionics pays real well and i got my degree in 18 months by doubling up on allot of classes, that's about as quick as you can get one, most people take 24 months.
