Power outage device..exist ?
Does the following device exist ?
Device that would permenantly desactivate the power to it's socket when there's a power outage, until I manually reset it. So, for example: I connect my pump to this socket, that is plugged to my powerbar. The socket is always on, until there's a power outage (can be a fraction of a second..up to a unlimited period of time) and I would have to manually reset this socket (when power comes back on), so that there's power to the socket. Kinda like a breaker ? What I don't want, is the socket to come back on automatically after a power outage. Anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks |

I'm not sure about a disconnect like you are talking about, but you could get a UPS, Uninterruptable Power Supply. That will power your equipment for several minutes up to several hours depending on the size. You'll find them in the computer section of Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, Staples, etc. It's a very common item.
The one I have will run until the battery runs out, then it will trip out requiring a reset like you want. The only thing I have on it is the return pump and a couple power heads. No lights or heaters. It'll keep that powered for about a half hour or so, covering most of the power outages we have here. If it's longer than that I have to haul out the generator. That may cover your needs. It will power you through brief outages or fluctuations, but will remain off once the UPS has used up it's battery reserve.

A controller, like those from Neptune Systems (ACjr, ACIII, etc) could do that. They can be programmed to turn a device off after a power outage.
Other than a controller, I can't think of a device that is designed to do this. You may be able to get the function by using a powerstrip with a digital timer that has the backup battery removed. I know that my without the battery my Coralife digital timer strip will "fail off" if the power goes out (i.e. nothing will come back on automatically when the power is restored). I'm curious why you need this feature. |
