Need Guidance With a 140 gallon

Hey everyone, I am currently helping a friend set up a 140 or 150 gallon saltwater tank......We finished hooking up the plumbing and have the sump all hooked up. We filled up the tank and added salt and sand. We are having the live rock shipped later this week, however I have a few questions concerning the tank and I don't have experience with a tank this massive! lol But it is quite nice

1. The overflow is located in the back right corner of the tank.....and it makes an awful lot of noise back there where the water is draining into the sump......is there any way to quiet the noise down some?

2. What would be the most efficient and effective lighting system if this guy plans on keeping coral? I know he does not have a lot of experience either.....so I will be taking care of the tank and livestock. (This means I will be sticking with easier coral to care for.)

3. He is using a Pro 150 series wet/dry system......the hose that came with the sump (to connect the the overflow.......did not quite fit the fitting under his tank...so me slightly modified the plumbing down there on just that side.... So basically I just want to make sure that will not effect anything and that we wont drain or overflow either the tank or sump! It all has been running with water for about 4 days now......so Im guessing it will be fine.

I would look into a Durso or stockman standpipe.

What are the tank dimensions? That will be very important in making recommendations.

I couldn't answer that without pictures of what was done. I would recommend removing the bioballs or whatever biological media came with the filter if he is going to go reef it will probably prevent issues later. I would leave it if he decides to have a fish only tank.

Thanks for the input....I will measure the tank for the lights and look into removing the bio balls and other media. What would be a better replacement for the middle space of the sump where all the bio balls and other media is located??

Either a good skimmer or a refugium. You could also fill it with live rock rubble or leave it empty.
