Interesting hitch hiker Urchin

When I got this guy it was dime size. Put it in my sump as I didn't know if it's reefsafe. Would like to put it in a softy tank, will it be OK or will it eat the zoos and leathers? Tried to get an ID in the invert forum with no luck.

what a neat critter. Seems to be a variation on a pencil urchin, but with sharp tips.

Urchin of some type? But boy-o-boy, if it's reef safe and won't get too big you got a great free gift...it's beautiful!

Thanks it is a beauty.
At first I too thought it was a pencil urchin, but the tips are very sharp. When it was small it was bright pink with rings, kinda like the new growth looks.

LOOKS SWEET

my guess only coraline will be in danger, and maybe the rocks, but a small nano don't see a big problem, if it causes issue move him,

I would go ahead and put it in the tank but keep a close eye on it. Softies regrow so fast he would have to do some serious eating to wipe out softies to a point they couldn't recover. Plus if it has been living in your sump for any length of time and growing without corals to eat, it seems to me that it must eat something else.

Looks dangerous lol

I would go ahead and put it in the tank, and keep an eye on it. Its not like you're going to wake up and all the corals will be gone. If you notice some zoas missing off a rock, move him to the sump or refuge.

Extremely dangerous urchin!!!
It will consume all your tank inhabitants, then crawl out of the tank at night and head for your bedroom. I hope you don't have any small pets. I'd play it safe and just pack him up and send him to me. I'll dispose of him properly
(PM me for the address)

What a stunning urchin, that's a terrific hitchhiker! Even if he eats the odd bit of softy, I'd still keep him in the display - he's gorgeous!
