Help

IS THIS GREEN HAIR ALGAE OR NOT? I never had it before. Should I get rid of it before it spreads and how.
Also need help in getting rid of Majano(if that what it is) it is spreading all over and so far have not had any luck with peppermint shrimp (I think the two large emerold crabs that I have make meal out of them ) I am trying joesjuice with no real result. I am thinking about getting a copperband butterfly but I am worried about my LPS corals.
Thanks for your help.

Looks like hair algae to me. I would pull it out and get rid of it ASAP. Just to be safe I would check your water quality for phosphates. ALso if your tankn is big enough, and it will go good in your setup a yellow tang took care of all my hair algae problems.

Looks more like turf algae to me, if it's difficult to pull off, I'm probably right....if not, then it's probably hair.

can you post a pic of the majano? also as far as your peppermint shrimp go, they propbably there. 75% of people with pep. shrimp hardly ever see them. I have three and I usually only see two (when I see any)

If its turf algae pull it out right away. I would almost suggest to pull the whole rock out and get rid of it and frag whatever coral is on it. I have been battling turf algae for 8 years because before I knew better I bought this little rock with this "cute grass" growing on it. Well it took over my whole tank killing corals etc. I tried every algae eating critter on the planet. I basically had to rid it by keeping nutrients low and manually pulling it out every few months. It sucks. I finally have it pretty much under control but it stays in your rock no matter what. I finally got a scopas tang that seems to have taken a liking to it and that seems to help. There have been times I thought about starting over with new rock and everything because of the turf algae. With the majanos I belive you can just take a razor and kill them and they don't regrow like aptasia.

CTG

DO NOT TRY TO PHYSICALLY KILL/REMOVE THE MAJANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Use a kalk paste mixed thick turn pumps off and hit it. Once it retracts cover it with the paste wait ten minutes or so and then turn the pumps back on. Just be careful not to hit any corals with it. As cturtlegirl said, I would just take the loss and get rid of the whole rock though because of the turf algea....good luck

I would try and chip that piece of rock off if you can. If not kalk the majano, and then cover the algae so it has no light. Might look cool now, but if it takes over your tank it won't be.

Yeah, lose the rock. You'll spend a hell of a lot less replacing the rock than you will fighting that stuff if it takes hold.

no need to throw it out, just let the rock dry out, or put it into freshwater for a few weeks and let the green turf algae die off, ...

If I let the rock dry out or bake it, don't I need to cure it again ?
