Superman Monti discussion...w/pics.
Okay, so, today I picked up a true Superman Monti for $60 at my LFS. It's 3.5" tall and is beautiful. The owner said it's the first time he's gotten one in years. Is it really that rare? Also, what would be the going price for a piece that size? Just wondering...
Oh, and here's a pic of my superman...but the pic does no justice, it's a bright red and blue. Enjoy, and please comment and discuss.

It has gotten pretty common, lots of aquacultured/maricultered pieces as well as wild specimens coming in. Some of them hold their color better than others. If yours holds its color then that's a pretty good price for the size.

The Maricultured pieces are pretty common, The superman name is probably the most molested name in the hobby.
I personally wouldnt call that piece a "true" Superman... IMO a True Superman traces back to the exoticreefs "heart pounding danae" (farmed by Bruddah, I believe) and not something that is Maricultured. JMHO. This was a frag of the original. |

I agree with Peter on this one. More and more are being seen in the trade, and more knowledge is being brought to color morphs. As far as calling them "rare", that's just a misconception brought on by the consumer market. These are fairly common enough, but just not collected

One of the big wholesalers had a superman/pokerstar monti on their list.
Of course it did not resemble either one. These designer names are nothing more than a problem. Great looking corals though!

"What's in a name??" Yada yada.. Except a profit margin. Those are drop dead gorgeous, I wouldn't care if I paid 10 & it was common as dirt.

yes I too think it simply comes down to being pretty enough to be bought. Really, who cares what the name is, whether it is true or not, as long as you like what you got when you paid for it. Montipora's are finally coming around to be more known as people buy them for their displays.

Where did you get that from? RR or WTR?
I picked up a pokerstar monti from Where's the Reef. Very nice.
