Could it be an encrusting sps hitchhiker?
For scale it is about 2.5"x1", it is very white but changing colors. I have just recently notice it is covered in VERY small polyps? (if you look at the closeup you can almost make them out) thanks for your help.

That is what I have thought it was all along dc, but just today I noticed some polyp extension. It is covered in very small polyps(at least they look like polyps, not random very uniform) and if you look in the lower portion of the photo you can see were it is dieing and leaving a structure. It is also very thick, maybe a 1/4 inch or more.

Maybe some type of foram? It probably has to grow more and the polyps be real visible to id as a coral.

Yea, the polyps are to small to photograph with my point & shoot camera. I will give it some time and see what it does. If it grows I will post some pics. Thanks anyway dc.

It's definitely not a scleractinian. It may be a dying fire coral, but the pictures are too poor to tell.
