I'd keep it about 76-78ish

77-82 would be fine. But like you said you will get all different answers.

it doesn't matter what temp what temp you keep it at. the main thing that stresses fishes and corals out are the huge fluctuations in temp. for example a temp change of about 4 degrees from morning to noon time is a big stressor. where as if you can keep your temps at 87 constant throughout the whole day would be better off that way.

I agree with trd47 regarding the fluctuations being the more important of the issues but 87 is pushing it IMO -- I like floatingfish's numbers, maybe setting heater/chiller for 79/81 respectively. Just my two cents and what seems to be working for me so far

most texts say 78. but mine routinely run 82-84, even up to 86, without problem.

I target 82 F as the base temperature for my systems. That seems fine.

I have seen anywhere from about 74-85 as long as it is a steady temp at all times. I run around 79-81 throughout the year.

Somewhere between 76 and 86. Fluctuations are the norm for these animals, and are important for their health. Within the normal range they are not stressful.
