Fission Nano Skimmer
I want to try and avoid putting a skimmer on my tank, but if I do, I think I would opt for this Fission Nano Skimmer, to get some results, but not over skim my tank.
How many gallons is this skimmer rated for? How well does it work?

Don't waste your money on this particular piece of junk unless you want micro bubbles all over the place and little to no skimmate.
Do a search and you will find the consensus is that this skimmer sucks. |

well I'm not looking for it to do a great bang up job, just kind of add a little maintence.
I think there is some type of pad you can add to it to elminate the microbubbles isnt there?

Without the bubble guard pad there will be about 1x10^6 microbubbles. With the pad 9x10^5 microbubbles.
The point I'm trying to make is that based off three months personal experience with this particular piece of equipment your money is better spent on a nice piece of coral or a better performing skimmer. I'm just offering an opinion, not an argument, on something I have tried and didn't work. If you do decide to try it, I hope it works for you but don't hold your breath and get ready for tiny bubbles everywhere. |

It sucks.
After all that huff and puff about not wanting a skimmer, why did you change your mind?

Is this the nano skimmer, or all fissions in general?

This is the piece of equipment that everytime it is mentioned it seems bad things are said about it. I've never really seen anything good said about the Fission Nano Skimmer. You can cut a square piece of the plastic backing off the back of middle compartment and put a light back there and stuff that middle compartment with caulerpa or chaeto. This will help some with the nutrient export.

hahaah i did huff and puff alot about no skimmer.
I'm still totally bent on not having one. This was more of a friend pressuring me into looking at this skimmer. I'm always open to options, but it seems this one is closed. No skimmer for me!

neilanh mentioned other "fission" skimmers.
What actually makes a skimmer a "fission" skimmer? Is it the name, design, technology or function?

if you need a small skimmer your best option is one of the tunze skimmers. They actually do work. You would just need to make sure you have room for it.

Fission nano was my worst purchase ever!!! I have heard great things about the skimmers from sapphire aquatics. They fit in all the most popular nano's
