New Maroon Clown
I just bought a maroon clown last Saturday and brought him home. He has a torn fin on the bottom and top. I put some Melafix in the qt for 3 days, then I noticed he's got white patches on him under his lip and around his gills. I also noticed his poop is white. Are these worms? Kind of looks like something is burrowed under his skin on his face around his gill. I put coppersafe in but is this the right treatment? Please help as I really like him and haven't had much luck when it come's to clown's. Time is of the essence he's not eating today and I've had no answers in the sick forum

Yeah, I've been doing that but not eating today. From what I've read it sounds like an internal parasite. What do I treat it with? will a fw dip help and what about Coppersafe. I also have Maroxy,& Melafix. Will one of these meds help?

Thanks, it sounds like Brooknella. I hope he makes it. I'll have to go to the lfs and get formalin. I've never done this before, so I hope it works.
Everytime I go to Big Al's I get sick fish. That's basically the only lfs in my area.

People laugh at me sometimes when I tell them this, but along with medication I also usually treat clowns by taking a fresh clove of garlic and letting it sit in their food for a while before I feed them. My theory is that the parasites reject whatever is in the garlic juice and release from the fish so it may help in healing. I'm no biologist though and I have no proof.
I've also had EXTREMELY good luck with Melafix in treating a variety of ailments, just make sure that you have the regular one that treats freshwater and saltwater fish. Do not put it in your reef! I just run Melafix in the required doses in a 10 gallon QUARANTINE TANK with a power filter running a filter pad with NO CARBON. Daily water changes as well. With Melafix, you don't get all of the harsh stuff that may or may not treat whatever the problem is. If all else fails, use Melafix. (Sounds like a commercial). It's not. Good luck - I hope it works out. Matt
