online fish order -- aclimation
Here is what i did, thought the poor guy was dead, was on his side in the bag, i transfered him to a plastic container where he continued to lay on his side, i then drip aclimated for about an hour/hour and a half he started to show some signs of movement. salinity and temp and ph where all good and at that point i placed the whole container in my QT at which time he started to swim up the sides of the container i left him in the container for a period (unrecalled at least 30 more min) in the tank then slowly started tipping the container up and he swam out, however he is now just behind a piece of pvc against the side of the tank not completely on his side but at about a 45 degree angle.
1) did i do anything wrong? 2) does he have any chance of living? he is breathing somewhat regularly (speed) but you cannot always see his gills moving. in the qt i have a small piece of rock, a piece of pvc and a plastic jug/fish decoration and a plastic plant. this is my first online order of a fish, corals have been no problem. i have had corals take 5 days to come out but i never thought of fish needing so much time to snap out of it.

It sounds like you've done everything right. What kind of fish is it?

A little more info would help? What kind of fish? Sounds like it should come out of it but I would check with the online vendor regarding any Arrive Alive Guarantee. Also ask them what the parameters of their tanks were and what they reccomend for acclimation so you will not void any guarantees...
Good Luck and keep us posted... |

Only the coolest fish in the world Mccoskers Flasher Wrasse, He better make it, he hasnt looked any worse since i got him. i checked the bag for trates, ammonia and salinity (obviously). salt was a bit high i thought at about 1.028 no ammonia and trace trates. the online vendor is fine.

I seem to remember my McCoskers were really unhappy during acclimation, but both pulled through OK. Unfortunately, I lost them to separate incidents (power outage and carpet surfing).
I hope he makes it

thanks for the encouraging words lotus, He seems to be improving, i was hoping this morning he would be 'better' so to speak but he did eat some rods food and possibly a few live brine as well just now. he did immediately respond with some movement when the rods was put in the tank. and he started to swim a LITTLE bit but he still mostly sits on the bottom, i am wondering if he should be in a bare bottom tank or not.

It's a great sign that he's showing interest in food
Mine were fine in a barebottom QT. This type of wrasse doesn't sleep in the sand. Mine stayed under the rock in the QT for most of the time, only coming out for food for the first few days.

this is a great improvement over where he was at early today.
sorry low light, no tripod, no flash, makes shaky pic. this is the first time he has started moving around a bit and not just laying on his side.
