New Octopus NW200 Problems (pics)?
Hey everyone. I just got my new NW-200 tonight. I took it out to the garage and placed it in a bucket of FRESH water to see what the bubbles would look like. I was immediately disappointed. I don't know if it works better in salt water but so far, not good. I thought I was going to get very fine bubbles but I am getting very large bubbles. I have tried moving the airline and adjusted the water level without any success. Am I doing something wrong or is this how the skimmer performs? I know you can mod the skimmer but was really hoping that it would work better then this out of the box. I have to say that I am not happy at all.

just add salt. I did the same with my nw150 a few days ago and now that I added some salt to my new 75 setup it bubbles like a monster.

Yup, just mixed in some salt and it looks great! Now I have the micro-bubbles I was looking for. Thanks for helping out.
Thanks to BrassMonkey for your thoughts as well.

Don't mind if I ask you Jsr? Where do you get SWC skimmer? I need skimmer to replace my undercapacity CSS 65 for 75 gallon

Okay, the skimmer is in the sump. So here is another stupid and easy question for someone more experienced...How do I stop the micro bubbles from getting in my return lines? My sump is a 29G DIY tank and I am limited on space due to the size of the skimmer. I have all 4 little pads installed on the standpipe but I can still see micro bubbles getting into the water. I even placed a piece of poly filter in the baffle before the return chamber. Maybe I need to redesign the baffles? Right now, I only have two installed, one about 4 inches high with a 1 inch gap before the other.

Jsr, I have a NW-200, take a look at my build thread and my 55g DIY sump, I have no microbubles at all in the display. I have buble trap 3 panes of glass 1 inch apart. I'm sure if you just redesign your sump with the existing tank you'll be fine.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1178054 FYI, I got my sump design from Melev's reef site.

Thanks. I have actually read through your thread a while back and found it very informative. I will copy your design on a smaller scale for my 29G. I also noticed I have bubbles coming from the fitting on the pump. I am going to contact Marine Solutions and see if they can send a replacement.
Thanks for the great thread!

Good luck I called and left them a voice mail and it was never returned. I hope you have better luck.
Thank you for your comments on my build thread.

Well, I sent them two emails on the status of my order and never got a reply. By the way, here are a few pictures of the skimmer in action. Dont mind the mess, I have not cleaned everything up just yet.
Skimmer Installed... Nasty stuff after 1 hour. Standpipe is about 1 inch off the lowest position...

fYI, the air hose, push it all the way down into the fitting attaching it to the skimmer, I see your is drooping down with the silencer on it. I did the same thing and my air hose got a kink in it and restricted the air flow.
