phosphate reactor

I want to run a phos reactor and I read on other forums that you could put carbon in with the phosphate media, can you do this? if so what kind of mix should I use is a 90 gal. reef? Also what is a good media to use?

you Can but i wouldn't, they require different flow rates through the reactor and their useful life is very different.

Phos medea remains useful much longer than carbon, so if you mix you will be tossing the phos media while it is still good.

I mix de-nitrate and carbon at a ratio of 1:5, but I only run for about 10 days every month or so or when I do a flatworm treatment. If you were the type that runs 24x7 or in large quantities you would find it to be more expensive and probably just use two reactors. I think nothing of it.
