Bugs? in my tank? PLEASE ID
Tank info:
exactly 1 month old. 75G with Sump and Skimmer 80 ~ 100lb of Live Rock 20lbs bought from local guy on craigslist. The rest was old and dried out. Tank cycled in 2 weeks. I have 4 Damsels. That's it. Salinity is 1.020 - not quite as high as it needs to be. My experience: 0 Always wanted a reef tank so I bought everything very cheap from my friend, except for the 20lbs from craiglist. QUESTION: What is this? Actual size ranges from 1-2mm. They like to come out at night. (hopefully that worked) Their little dead bodies are floating around my tank. A whole lot must have died while I was at work today cause this is the first day I really noticed it. First these started appearing: The little white circular things. Then these: about 1cm in diameter Please ID and let me know remedy. If this is nothing to worry about, then just point and laugh in my direction. THanks for any help. |

the dead amphiopods are floating all over my tank.
It doesn't look to clean and I'm afraid some bad might happen. Will they keep reproducing? Will certain types of snails or other cleaners take care of them? |

increase your salinity to 1.025,probabily what killed them.but test for everything anyway followed by a small water change.

Right on dude.
Thanks for the advice. Do you know about how much more salt it would take for my tank to increase from 1.020 to 1.025? Roughly? I know I'm being picky. And over what sort of time period I should do the increase over, 1 week? |

change out at least 10 percent of the water.add three cups of salt mix per gallon and add it slowly over a couple of hours.constantly check your salinty and adjust accordingly.

Cutegecko3. I think you may have miscalculated the salt per gallon. I do believe its 1/2 per gallon, as a general guideline. Don't want to create a dead sea effect. lol. Have a great day.

All harmless as others have said and beneficial. As for the sponge, congrats because they only thrive in pristine water conditions. (but you could raise your salinity a bit)

Wow, I had no idea. And neither did my friend that I bought this stuff from. I suppose he's not the expert he claims to be.
Thanks for all the feedback. Noob out! |
